Every educated women is the light of a family

The P.S Balikasadan Kottiyam is a free boarding provides residence for around 50 underprivileged children in and around Kollam district, which is founded in the year 1963.‘Every educated women is the light of a family” is the motto of our founder. Keeping this motto in our mind we the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate heart of Mary started many free boarding in many parts of India. The children hail from low socio economic background, single parent or children from  insecure family. They are admitted irrespective of cast creed and religion. It is registered under JJ act and OCB registration.

The aim of the institution is to ensure physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional and holistic development of children and to empower them , bring them to the main stream of the society. The children are enlightened with value education by eminent personalities of the society. They are given value based instruction on respect for each other, respect for parents, God fearing and good manners.

They are sent to Nithyasahaya High School for schooling which is an aided school. The school provide ample opportunity for holistic development of the children and provide best possible education to them. We had given special coaching for the weaker students.

They are given a daily timetable to adjust them daily routine. The day begins with prayer.  Instrumental Music training, gardening and computer training are the part of their daily timetable.

Other activities.

  • Initiated programmes for cognitive and mental enrichment of inmates.
  • A good library is available for the students and it is equipped with variety of books on fictions, science, and social world
  • Visited the old age home once in month. It is opportunity in make them understand the value of respecting others and love their parents.
  • Once a year they are taken for a picnic to help them relieve from tension and enjoy with their friend’s circle
  • We encouraged indoor games and outdoor games and celebrates functions relevant to State level and National level like Onam, Deepavali Christmas.
  • Efforts are made to provide them balanced and enriched food for their physical development
  • The classes are provided on balanced diet, preservation of food., menstrual hygiene, first Aid healthy living etc.
  • Training is given on cooking without losing the nutrients value, tailoring etc.

Due to  covid pandemic some of the children are send home for safety reason.
